Today we will talk about how to build a brand and shoot it to the moon.
You probably have heard about the most prominent brands out there: Apple, Coca Cola, Mc Donalds, Toyota, Zara, etc.
But how did they start and what have they done to earn trust and be a billion-dollar brand?
First of all, What is a brand?
A Google search gives the following answers:
“A brand is a name, term, design, symbol, or any other feature that identifies one seller’s good or service as distinct from those of other sellers.”
“Branding often takes the form of a recognizable symbol to which consumers easily identify, such as a logo. Common examples include the Nike “swoosh,” the golden arches of McDonald’s and the apple used by Apple Computers.”
“Brand Purpose. A powerful brand purpose sets out how a company intends to change the world for the better. Its role is to unite customers and culture alike in the pursuit of that intention. It’s a statement of belief, of hope, of pursuit.”
My personal opinion about brands.
So, as we see, a brand is more than just a business. It is a lifestyle of giving your best so the world will be a better place. Believe me or not, but until now, I have started more than five brands. All of them have a real purpose of changing the world for the better.
One of my brands is a Pet Supplies online store. I might say that this business, in particular, makes me the happiest person alive. Still, wondering why? When my customers send pictures of their happy dogs or cats wearing or using the stuff ordered from my store, I instantly get a smile on my face. It makes me do more and work my ass off.
To build a brand is not all about money. I must say if you have any intention to build a business just for earning some bucks and buying stuff for your pleasure, you’re in the wrong place. You are on the incorrect life path, and you should change this.
When I first get an idea for any brand, I get super excited! It’s because I love to challenge myself and get the most of me. So I can help others and make life more relaxed than it might be.
Now let’s talk about how to build a brand. All of these methods that I will show you are what I use personally, and you might get more ideas if you think outside the box 😉
How to get an idea for a brand?
Hmm, that’s a great question, to be honest. Sometimes people get crazy ideas, and I bet you know someone who gets those kinds of ideas or is it yourself? I get my thoughts at the best place where the sickest ideas come or where we do naughty things (based on my experience and some exes of mine) – THE SHOWER.
Ohh, that’s me:
Just kidding, but I think I look like this when I shower.
Let’s get serious now. A brand can’t be general; it should be specific. I mean it should have a particular product and audience, it can’t be for everyone. If you have a product or just an idea, the best way to start is to Google about that product/audience and spend hours reading/researching. Google might be your best friend in these kinds of situations, trust me. Treat your brand like a member of your family or as Gary Vee says, “Your brand is your baby.”
Let’s raise your focus; don’t stop for anything and never give up. You can do it, and that’s why I’m writing this blog post, to help all of you out there (I believe you will learn something from me). However, let’s proceed now and build a brand.
How to find a brand name?
One of the important things about starting a brand is finding the right name for it because it can’t be changed after launching it.
For example, if you are trying to open a brand about Fishing and you have an idea for your name. Let’s say it’s fishingplanet.com when we go to Namecheap.com (Namecheap is one of the biggest and cheapest domain registrars in the world) but is shown to be taken as the picture below:
I do something that I thought outside the box, and it works very well for me. I go to thesaurus.com and search for synonyms, in our example “synonyms of Fishing” (or you can make a Google search).
As we see, there are some synonyms for Fishing. I like “trawling” the most; it sounds better than the others. Again, we go to Namecheap.com and check the availability for the domain.
Ta-dah! It’s free to register; you got yourself a personalized brand and domain name.
So, Namecheap is only suitable for domain registration. If you want web hosting, you should check Dreamhost. With Dreamhost, you will get the best hosting out there for only $2.59 per month, and you will also get a FREE domain. Isn’t it awesome?
After we have found our brand name and have set up our domain/web hosting, we can now proceed!
How to build a brand logo?
Before we start, we should ask our good friend Google about what exactly is a brand logo?
A logo is an easily recognizable, reproducible design element, often including a name, symbol, specified colors or trademark. It is a quick, visual representation of a brand’s message and position. A well-designed logo should evoke some memory or emotion from the viewer depending upon their relationship with the brand.
And yes, I confirm that the logo is essential for your brand. I’ve made some changes to my logo’s color and symbol, and it helped very much to increase the conversion rate.
Below you will see an image of some of the biggest brand’s out there and what their logo’s mean:
Or you can use a Chrome Extension called Eye Dropper to copy any color from any website.
Then you should find some right fonts for your logo; I suggest to get max. Two different fonts for your logo and website. If you want to copy fonts from any site, you can use a website called Stylify Me. Thank me later 🙂
But, how to create my logo? You can use a free online tool called Canva; with this tool, you can easily create a logo for your brand. I suggest purchasing a logo for about 5 to 10 dollars from Fiverr (Fiverr is the world’s largest freelance services marketplace for businesses to focus on growth & create a successful business at affordable costs.)
How to market and expand my brand?
First of all, you need to open pages on social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Youtube.) By exposing your brand and product using these platforms, you will learn more about your products, customers, and everything else related to your brand.
To engage with your online audience, you have to tell a story. Customers should be treated like family, you have to connect with your audience emotionally, and that’s because people will buy from you.
Remember, no one will think the same, and your audience sometimes will not engage the way you think they will. Be sure to learn every day from them so your brand can envolve and be something big.
I am going to write another article about marketing and will show you in-depth how to use different platforms. Until next time, enjoy reading!
